Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

India Help Chrome Extension गोपनीयता नीति / Privacy Policy under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP).

Applies to India Help - Your Digital Assistant (Chrome Web Store).

Scope

This policy applies to the India Help Chrome Extension ("the Extension") — published as "India Help - Your Digital Assistant" on the Chrome Web Store. It covers how the Extension handles information when you browse websites and use form-filling and AI assistance features. For the IndiaHelp website and signed-in account services, see our main Privacy Policy at /privacy.

Data Fiduciary

IndiaHelp ("we", "our") is the data fiduciary for personal data processed through the Extension.

What the Extension Does

The Extension runs a content script on web pages you visit. It can: • Detect HTML forms on government and other portals • Let you save personal details in a local profile ("My Info") • Map form fields to your profile and fill them in your browser • Explain form fields and describe pages using AI assistance Form filling happens locally in your browser. We do not receive the values you type into government portal forms.

What We Collect

Profile data you enter voluntarily in the Extension's My Info tab, which may include: • Name (first, last, full) • Email and mobile number • Date of birth, gender, nationality • Aadhaar and PAN numbers • Father's and mother's names • Address (lines, city, district, state, PIN code) Preferences stored by the Extension: • Language choice and onboarding state • Feature toggles (field hints, validation) We do not read or collect data from portal pages beyond form field metadata (field names, labels, types, and whether they are required) needed to offer assistance.

Where Data Is Stored

Your profile and language preferences are stored on your device using Chrome's extension storage (chrome.storage.local). Feature toggles may use chrome.storage.sync so they can follow your Chrome profile across signed-in browsers. Profile data is not uploaded to IndiaHelp servers as part of normal Extension use. The Extension displays: "Stored only on this device. Never sent to servers."

Data Sent to IndiaHelp Servers

When you use AI-powered features, the Extension sends limited metadata to IndiaHelp APIs. Your saved profile values are not included in these requests. • Form analysis (/api/analyze-form): field names, labels, input types, required flags, page title, language, and portal context • Page description (/api/describe-page): page title, URL, meta description, and up to five headings • Field explanations (/api/explain-field): field name, label, type, required flag, page title, URL, and your follow-up questions These requests help label fields, describe pages, and answer questions about form fields. They do not include your Aadhaar, PAN, address, or other profile values.

Third-Party AI Processing

AI features are powered by OpenAI models hosted outside your browser. IndiaHelp sends only the metadata described above — not your profile contents — to generate responses. OpenAI processes this data under its API terms. We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.

Chrome Permissions

The Extension requests: • storage — to save your profile and preferences on your device • Host access (<all_urls>) — to detect forms and show the Extension panel on pages you visit We request broad host access because government services are spread across many domains. The Extension only activates its UI when you interact with it; it does not browse on your behalf.

Basis for Processing

We process your data only with your explicit consent — granted when you save information in My Info, use AI features, or continue using the Extension after reading this policy.

Purpose of Use

To help you understand and fill government and other web forms, and to provide multilingual guidance. We do not use Extension data for advertising, profiling, or unrelated marketing.

Data Sharing

Your profile is not sold or shared with third parties for marketing. Government portal submissions are made by you. The Extension fills forms locally; it does not transmit filled form contents to IndiaHelp servers. AI metadata may be processed by OpenAI as described above. We do not transfer personal data outside India beyond what is necessary for that AI processing in the current version.

Your Rights (DPDP Act 2023, Sections 11–14)

• Access: view your profile anytime in the Extension's My Info tab • Correction: edit any field and save • Erasure: clear fields in My Info, or uninstall the Extension to remove all locally stored Extension data • Grievance: raise privacy concerns with us when a contact channel is published on the IndiaHelp website

Retention

Profile and preference data remain on your device until you clear them, reset Extension storage, or uninstall the Extension. Server-side AI request logs, if any, are retained only as long as needed for operations and security.

Children

The Extension is intended for users who can lawfully consent to processing of their personal data under Indian law. If you are under 18, use the Extension only with a parent or guardian's guidance.

Changes

We will update this page when Extension practices change. Material changes will be communicated in the Extension or on this website. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
